two raised pens

I use raised pens for breeding pairs, introducing new birds and for care of an injured bird.  Normally during non breeding season I keep all my Calls & East Indies in one large fenced in area with a garden pond.  During breeding season I put pairs or trios of Calls/BEI into the raised pen for breeding season.  My wilds stay in the outdoor aviary.  The raised pen is also used when I purchase new birds.  I put them in there for a short period to make sure they are  eating properly and all health aspects are satisfied
.

I used 1/2 x 1" 16 gauge wire for the pens.  Each also has a covered nesting area with a hinged top.  I have three cage door openings (one on front and each side) large enough to fit a bucket of water through.  The pens each have a large pan inset into the floor for easy access by the ducks.  A wire ramp goes into the pan for them to enter/exit the water.  The pan has a drain to empty the water daily.

All my cage parts I purchased from Morton Jones Cage Supply.  I have also made up some pen doors using cooling racks that can be purchased at WalMart, they come in a pair and cost about $1.  One other thing you might use is an old grate from a grill or the rack shelves found in old refrigerators that people are throwing out.
