I
purchased my first pair of Mini Appleyard/Silver
Bantams from the Holderread Waterfowl Preservation
Center............originally known as the Silver Appleyard Bantam,
these are
today known by British standards as Silver Bantams.A Khaki Campbell and White Call drake was used by Reginald Appleyard of Great Britain back in the 1940's to produce the older British Standard of the Mini Appleyard yet the genetic color makeup did not compare to the large version of the Appleyard. In the 80's Tom Bartlett of England produced a bantam duck with the same coloring as the large version of the Appleyard, the new British Standards now refer Reginald Appleyard's bantam as a Silver Bantam and Tom Bartlett's as a Miniature Appleyard. In North America the Snowy Call duck, a little smaller, closely resembles the Silver Bantam. There is not alot of information available on the Silver Bantam and I would like to thank Owain Llyr Davies, Barbara Bullock, Chris Ashton (UK) and Dave Holderread (USA) for the knowledge they were able to pass along. |
